A SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Howdy,    I'm a  ‘'outsider'’ folky artist n I call myself -Maw Bear.  I'm the bride in the picture...I call myself this cuz o’ my bear of a heart…Indian spirit, n the fact that I’m a good ole Momma!!!   I paint things from memories o my past, heritage- both Indian n Southern, n life while sittin on my porch in the Great Blue Ridge Mountains.  I love gardening, cannin, sittin round a fire or the porch an sharin good laughs with my family / friends, campin, hikin, being a hermit at home, Civil War Reenactin’, n a good ole book.....  When paintin from my past, I let my feelins from experiences come out…losin my parents to drunk drivers at age eleven...LIVING the Twilight Zone..., abusive relationships, n good memories like cheerleadin, volleyball, high school, birth, livin life n most importantly my Lord…I’ve been bottled up creatively for years from the shock o my momndaddy dyin, n together with God, who without Him I wouldn't be here, n good ole Mrs. Paula Deen, I have come alive again.   Long story, but thank you Paula, you are loved!  And, I love the Lord as well...I get kinda shy talking about all that has happened in my life, but boy could I tell you stories!  I'm gonna start painting some of them and the ways God has brought me through...---   I paint on canvas mostly, but  Lots of my stuff come from fleamarkets, wood.....I apply a type of tar substance, then paint over it with acrylic paints, and scratch through ta show the tar.  Then, I seal it all up with shellac/polyurethane.   I started with the tar because that is all I ad in my husband's garage...but am lookn for somethin similar with a water base.....I'm always lookn for galleries n considerin opening my own studio/art retreat/ mini gallery soon as well but currently am just a Porch Paintin; and I'm always lookn for fairs/ fundraisers/ etc. to be involved in--holler at me on the contact page if your'e intrested in havin me at your event!  I place a precedence on good causes, n would luv ta hear from ya.  I also paint children's rooms n have Porch Paintin Sales most Saturdays.  Write me ta schedule n appointment if ya get down this way ta the Blue Ridge Mountains.  Last, I am startn a 'small' quaint photography service because many folks have said have a natural talent for it and find life in photos in a new light....so if you are having a wedding or event and would like for me ta photograph it for ya, just holler.  I have quite a few pages, but that's from my organized side.  Feel free ta have a looksee o them all, it won't take ya long--the important stuff is the art, o' course!   -Thanks 4 lookn, comments welcome, chowzers! -maw bear
